I'm applying Early Action to the University of Chicago and for extended essay prompt #5 "In the spirit of adventurous inquiry, pose a question of your own." In regards to the question you are supposed to create, is it supposed to be an essay prompt that you are creating or are you simple asking any question (like why do people sleep?) and attempting to answer it in a creative way.

If you’re asking whether your essay should consist of a prompt, then no. You have to make a prompt then respond to it in essay form.

"Essay Option 5.

In the spirit of adventurous inquiry, pose a question of your own. If your prompt is original and thoughtful, then you should have little trouble writing a great essay. Draw on your best qualities as a writer, thinker, visionary, social critic, sage, citizen of the world, or future citizen of the University of Chicago; take a little risk, and have fun."

It clearly states “If your prompt is original and thoughtful, then you should have little trouble writing a great essay.” Of course you have to write an essay!
