Extended waitlist?

If we don’t hear anything by June 15th we should assume we didn’t get in, so just wondering if anyone has heard back off the extended waitlist…

Nothing new here. My son is locked in to another school but did not withdraw his name from the waitlist.

@rstdane1 I’m in the exact same position, anxiously waiting though

Same with my D… she confirmed with the U for CLA… waitlisted for Carlson… Historically, from what I read or hear, very few (if at all any) get off the waitlist.

I do not understand why the waitlist is so large at Minnesota. I have not heard of any outright rejections. I think they play us for fools and hoping my son sticks with his school even if offered by UMN

Speculation, but MN’s use of the Common App has likely increased the number of applicants in contrast to prior years. This is especially true for OOS applications. So, MN gets all these super stellar applicants who hope to go to top 25 schools. When those students finally decide, then MN is receiving the declines. A similar dynamic seems to be happening at UW-Madison. A tortuous and torturous process.

Maybe so. Not sure about the dynamics at UMTC but UW-Madison lifted their cap on OOS/international students and this has probably had an negative impact on some in-state kids that would normally get admitted. The Chinese student population at UW-Madison grew 356% the past 10 years.

When in doubt, admit the student who will pay 3X the in-state tuition rate, as this offsets the in-state tuition freeze and budget cuts handed down by Walker and Co.

For those still interested my son contacted UMN last week and they said the waitlist was still active and he was still being considered. Seems awful late in the game for this to be the case but thats what they said. Anyone else hear?

I have heard of a couple people who got in like two weeks ago. I am still waiting as well but I have accepted the "no’ and will transfer in later

Did anyone else’s app tracker change to “carefully considered”? Mine did today.

Mine did it too, anyone else know what is that mean?

It shows up the day before people receive a decision. If I had to guess we’ll be told “there is no more space left” and officially be rejected but we’ll see.

I got that too

@jack4222 They had said you’ll receive no communication if you weren’t accepted though so it’d be kind of foul if they were updating our trackers just to tell us we were denied after being extended-waitlisted

My d’s changed today too.

Tracker changed today, just updated to a deny.

How about others? Did anyone get off waitlist?

I think its exceedingly disrespectful and wrong that they updated our trackers knowing there was no space left. They had said that if we weren’t getting off the waitlist, there would be no notification at all. Updating our tracker to say “your application is being considered” is absolute bull and EXTREMELY misleading knowing that our applications were never being considered and they were just updating to give us bad news- which they had said they wouldn’t be delivering, in fact we just wouldn’t hear from them. I’m sorry, that’s just terrible. Had this whole process with UMN not been really bad in the first place, this really pushed it over the edge. Not that they care, but time for them to make a change with the way their system works and the way they treat their applicants.

Long winded message about not enough space after nearly seven months. 3.6/33 ACT.

I am sure all of you have great options available…go where you are wanted and do great things!

After 8 months of waiting, got denied. Please improve your system for next year’s applicants, UMN.
