Extensive review of Santa Ynez apartment w/ photos, video

Okay, a few people here were interested in learning more about Santa Ynez. There is a lot I had to say about it, and I have a lot of photos, so please see this link to see my full-length review:

If you have any more questions/comments about Santa Ynez, I can get back to you much faster if you comment directly on the site.

I hope this helps you!

wow, thank you very much
but based on the review… I kind of don’t want to live in Ynez anymore lol
I’m not sure but I don’t think i like the party on every weekends thing
though everything else is great

question:
I’m going to transfer to ucsb next fall, how hard is it to get in san clemente apartment? as far as i know, san clemente is a grad apartment though there are undergrads who live there

Hi there!

I’m so glad my review helped you! I actually live in San Clemente now and I am a junior transfer! I didn’t get in initially and was placed in a triple at Santa Ynez… If this happens to you, call the Housing Office ASAP and tell them you would like to be put on the San Clemente wait list! They don’t talk about it, but I found out when I called. Fortunately, I got in before the fall even started. I don’t know the admittance rate, however. It’s fairly competitive.

I submitted my application to live in a 2 bedroom apartment in San Clemente for this coming Fall, and the best I could get was a 4 bedroom.

I’ve lived here in San Clemente nearly the whole academic year, so I’ll be writing an IN DEPTH review of San Clemente this quarter. It is still my favorite choice of all university housing. Best of luck!

Please try to ask any other questions you have on my site. I check that a lot more often that cc, especially on week days.

yeah i went to your site a few days ago and saw that, immediately fell in love with san clemente
can you also review on El Dorado? it has my attention as well due to the price

Hi I really appreciate this review! How many sq ft would you say the apartments are? I checked out the villas at tropicana and by far it was the nicest looking and largest compared to other places I checked out. thanks!

smartguy - can you believe it? I asked the housing services how many sq feet the apartments are and they said they don’t have that information. They recommended looking at the floor plans. I don’t personally know about tropicanas yet, as I’ve only seen the outside.

I also don’t know anyone who lives at El Dorado, but hopefully I’ll be able to go check it out soon.

Thanks for the review, I’m still really torn between living in the dorms or university owned apartments. I’m a transfer student so I would prefer to live on campus my first year, but it seems many transfers recommend apartments instead.

Hey Andrew,

I felt the same way before transferring. I was disappointed that I wasn’t selected to live in a dorm (spots go by lottery). But now I’m more glad than ever that I didn’t get in! The chances are slim to get in a dorm anyway.

You would probably like San Clemente. It’s basically across the street from the entrance to the school.

Ah, thanks, I didn’t realize that there were so few dorm spots for transfers. I guess I’ll go for the apartments since they are cheaper anyways. Ill probably pick Santa Ynez as my first choice, San Clemente seems more isolated and less social since the rooms are singles and mostly grad students.

Hello, is there a quite off campus apartment for new transfer student?

HI souptpt,

You have three options:

1) San Clemente (this is the quietest)
2) Santa Ynez (generally quiet, can be noisy on weekends starting Thursday nights, it can also depend on your roommates)
3) private, off campus apartments in IV or Goleta (Goleta is very quiet but farther from campus).
