Junior year, I had a situation in which my history teacher made me very uneasy after I tried to point out that she was teaching something incorrectly. Between the normal drama of school and my interactions with the teacher, I had never been so stressed out and distracted: everyone came up to me asking whether I was okay, I was always sick (never dared to miss school for it though) and had coughs that lasted for months, people kept telling me I looked like I was on the verge of a mental breakdown. It was all I could do to prevent it from affecting my GPA (I miraculously kept all A’s), but bad timing caused it to interfere with AP studying and actual test-taking, which showed up in my scores (I usually got 5’s the previous years but ended up with a lot of 4’s this year).
My GC doesn’t know about this, and I was wondering whether this is something that I should discuss with her to possibly put on her recommendation. I’m afraid that it may reflect badly on me because I was technically arguing with a teacher; however, I’m typically a pretty passive student (one of those "goody-goody"s), so I thought this was a very, very isolated incident (and I’m not the only person in the class who had problems with this teacher). I don’t want this situation to come off as an excuse, however hypocritical that may sound, but in reality, it did affect me a lot in so many negative ways. I’m seeking admission to top colleges and my APs this year are the weakest part of my application. If you guys could give me some advice on what to do, that’d be very much appreciated.
