External Exam Results vs. Transcripts

Which factor is more important for admissions at US universities? IGCSE/AS/A Level results or a high school transcript?

Also, do UK universities ask for a final transcript at the end of the year?

US - external are more important

Uk - yes

Ooh, I hope you're right about the externals being more important. Thanks.

Not at all, in the US the GPA is the most heavily scrutinized admissions factor. Standardized test scores/external exams are not more important than the GPA of a student. In fact, most american students don't even send their external exam results until AFTER they are admitted for credit purposes (AP Scores I'm talking about).

But, from a foreign country, I'm sure they will look at your external exam results as admissions people are very aware that in foreign nations these exams are far more weighted than classroom performance.

OK I hope that's true too :)

My school forgot to send Stanford any transcript of grades and such. They only sent my GCSEs, AS-levels and A2 predictions. I still got in so I suppose it is enough :)

Vaib i think i answered the question correctly as the OP is an international aplpicant :)

all that stuff abt GPA is highly irrelevant

urg - you give me hope! My transcript is decent with B's littered here and there, and a disgusting, nasty blot of a D and a C somewhere, but my external exam results are top. Wow, you've just made my day. I'll probably still get rejected though, LOL.

Yeah, gpa hardly matters at international schools 'cos we don't even have 'em :D Thanks guys.

noprobs, your class grades would matter a little if you are applying to HYMP though, but Standardised tests are more weighed then too!

Maybe if you are lucky your head will forget to send the report off too :) Hmm you should ask whoever is writing it to try and indicate that everyone else does badly as well (I am guessing this is the case, as no one bothers for their report cards).
