External examination

So my family is poor and won’t pay for all 4 years of college. And getting full ride for 4 yeard scholarship for me is very unlikely. I have read that some people can take an exam in some colleges and if they pass it they get some credits and like reduce their time in college or whatever.
Did anyone do that? How did it work out? How much money did you safe?
Thanks in advance

https://clep.collegeboard.org/ As always, you should check the specific policies at the school you are interested in.

Also transferring from a community college to a 4-year public university is likely to save you thousands of dollars.

you are talking about Advanced placement credits. Ask your high school teachers or guidance counselor about it.

Also,if yoru parents don’t make muchh, you can get financial aid. Have your parents to the Net Price Calculator at your schools of choice. For example, here it is at Rutgers .https://financialaid.rutgers.edu/tools-and-resources/net-price-calculator/
You may get grant based scholarships!

You might be better off just starting at a community college.

  1. options as far as I can tell.
  2. AP Credits.
  3. IB Credits.
  4. Dual enrollment/summer community college courses.
  5. If you have good grades & a story to tell you could apply for a Jack Kent Cooke Scholarship

5 options. CLEP exam.
