Would a new award receive consideration, if I sent it in now? It's a fairly big deal -- national medal -- and while it probably wouldn't cause a 'Whoa, you're accepted!' reaction (but then, what does?), it might help my case.

So, er. Does MIT accept details of new awards/honours, and how ought I to send this in? (Photocopy the certificate, or drop an email? I'm half across the world, so fax is crazy expensive, very difficult, and probably not an option.)

Yes, you ought to send in details of new awards like this one. If it's in by Feb. it will get into your file -- I'd recommend photocopying the certificate and mailing it so there will be a copy in your file for readers. International admissions are not considered until after domestic, I think, so you should have time to get it there.

I'd let them know by email ASAP. Selections committee will start in a couple of weeks, and they need time to get a reader to look over anything new you send.

They are definitely familiar with most of the national awards, so there is really no need to send a fax or photocopy of the certificate. A nice email with a short description of what the award was and your experience at the competition would probably be your best bet.

when's the latest that we can send in extra stuff? I'm taking the AMC on Feb 6th...When would the grade come out and do I have time to send it? Can I write something like "I really want to go to your school" along with the extra materials?

And I never knew we need photocopies... I didn't send in any (for the ones I already have on my app) because I asked my counselor and she said no it's unnecessary...do a lot of people really send in photocopies?

and yes! I'm international, but I asked my teacher today and he said the score normally come out 3 weeks later, so it's late Feb...I'd assume that would still be too late: (?

Also how do you make sure your extra stuff get there? You can't really tell in MyMIT...

You just have to assume it gets there. :) Most stuff makes it to MIT and to the admissions office just fine, so I'm sure you don't need to worry.

thanks mollie.
One other thing, on my app I said "AMC to be taken in January" because my math teacher said it's in Jan and I didn't know it's in Feb until after I submitted my app. Should I worry?
And is putting "AMC to be taken in Jan" as description of math league very stupid? I don't know why I did that. But I figure I probably shouldn't send a letter and say "please ignore it cuz it's stupid"...
