Extra Courses (Calc) - How Important?

Hi, if anyone could give me a better view of this situation I'd be grateful.

First off, I'm a homeschooled student, which means my courses are scheduled much more openly in a public school, just so you understand before reading this.

I began Senior year taking PreCalc, and I was moving through it quickly (enough so that I thought I would finish it in less than a semester). So on my college applications I stated that I would also be taking Calculus in second semester. Yes, I know that sounds pretty ridiculous, but I was motivated and had high expectations for myself. Anyway, the rest of PreCalc was much harder so I ended up finishing it about a month ago.
Clearly, I just couldn't squeeze Calculus into my senior year.
I've been admitted to UC San Diego for Mechanical Engineering, and I'm wondering if dropping this course will be a problem for me.
I already sent an email and talked with an admissions officer who more or less reassured me that it would be ok because I already met the required three years of math. But I'm still a bit confused...
How seriously do colleges take your plans for "extra" courses??

Keep shooting e-mails at the admissions officer. He will answer your inquiry better than most everyone here.
