How much extra credit do your teachers give?

One of my teachers gives 50 pts worth per semester and another gives one.

All of them give about 2-3% of a grade's worth (around 30-50 pts)/semester.

A.P. Teachers give basically nothing but then regular they give a hefty amount.

All of the classes are pretty fair with it except two. Most teachers give homework passes which can be used for extra credit (3-5 on a test) if you don't use em. Usually, the extra credit won't change your overall grade by more than a point. I had a post a while back. Stats gave so much extra credit that my grade was well over a 100 (around 104-108) which was a pure joke and computer class gives lots, none of which is necessary to me and most students.

My english teacher gives around 5 points on the grade if you do different things. Part of which is wearing certain clothes on certain days (school spirit) and some of it is writing essays. My other teachers dont except for Calculus which makes the tests out of 105.

Uggggh I hate extra credit. My classes usually deal out a hefty amount, but you have to earn it. I ended up with three grades in the 100-106 range last quarter and none of it counted above 100. Kvetch moan et cetera.
The usual is five points on a test for easy bonuses and ten for the more difficult in chem. In world history we can answer weird trivia for a point each on quizzes, and read a book for three points on our average.

can't you just pretend you read the book?

There's an AP English teacher at my school that says, "Life is not based on curves."

Apparently, there is no curve in her class.

None of my teachers believe in extra credit, it really kills you especially with tests that are over 100 questions long.

"Life is not based on curves."

It's not based on "not" curves either.

"Life is not based on curves."

i strongly disagree with that.

i dont have many classes that give out extra credit, only points for turning in bathroom passes at the end of the year, which give 5-10 points into the homework category which does not help whatsoever.

that being said, i have lots of classes with curves (AP US, AP physics C) so i guess it's balanced out.

My old Alg II/Trig teacher (sophomore year) had contests every quarter. First quarter was to take the mathematician of the year, and do a portrait. Best one wins 3 points on their quarter grade. Then in fourth quarter it was a pi memorization contest. Most digits memorized per section gets 5 points on the quarter grade, most digits out of everyone gets 5 on quarter, 10 on exam. I think the winner got 214 right.

My AP Lit teacher will give you 3 points on your quarter grade if you see a "professional theatrical performance" and write a 2 page review. I saw Much Ado About Nothing. Loved it, and brought my average up to a 93.

Nah, there's a two page summary to turn in before you get the points.

we dont have extra credit per se, but my AP teachers usually curve tests if we dont do so well on them

however, i have many extra credit points because i have scored the highest on many tests, and the next score is so low that they dont curve it to my score, they curve it between mine and the next lowest...that means that i end up getting more points than the test is worth (this happens most often in AP Chem, in fact, i have gotten extra credit on 15/16 tests that we have taken...the other one i just got the 100% score, this includes midterms and finals...sorry i am kinda proud/happy about that, sadly i am not that good at chem, the other kids are just that much worse at it)
i am finding out that this is becoming more beneficial as senioritis kicks in and i dont want to do stupid busy-work assignments

i dont have many classes that give out extra credit, only points for turning in bathroom passes at the end of the year,

That's unhealthy. Your teacher shouldn't be encouraging unhealthy behavior.

No extra credit in any of my classes. I think there was one curve in the entire year when all the people in my precal class completely bombed the first test of winter term. When students who had a 99.9 average start getting Cs on tests, it's the teacher's fault.

I totally agree with you on this. No one likes this teacher. Thank goodness I am not in this class.

No extra credit in any classes, ever.

Extra credit...what is that?

Yeah...we get pretty much no extra credit, ever.

We have a lot of extra credit in our Honors/AP Chemistry classes.

Honors/AP:
BBQs (Bonus Binder Quizzes) Four basic treasure hunt quizzes through your binder for ten points each.
10-15 points on each test for a bonus question (almost always from the homework)

Honors:
When learning your ions, four bonus quizzes (10 points each).

AP:
A different two-person group teaches a unit every week; 10 point bonus quiz for every unit.

Overall:
The teacher guarantees an 80% average on every test and at the end of each semester.

in my Japanese class I got a 200%!!!! But I only got an A!! :(
Anyways im japanese so on every test the teacher makes us write characteristics and for each correct one, you get a point. The time limit for this was 5 min and I can write 100+ each time therefore making my test grades approx 200% 100/100 + 100 = 200/100 = 2=200%. but the hw dropped me to a 198% even though I got a 100% on all, so I had to increase my test scores by 1% and walla I got a 200%!!!
