It creeps me out when people reincarnate themselves with new screennames! Steve is a “she”.

Back to add this- my oldest child, (Step-S) really didn’t have anything to list. Senior year he picked up a club, but he was moved around some during HS and never really stayed long enough to find a real niche. He did play his guitar a lot. I think loneliness led him to it, but its been a great joy to him since and he is really quite good. I did worry that the lack of ECs and awards would impact his acceptances, and I’m still convinced that it may have kept him out of his top two schools. I’d say to look at the schools you can think of which might suit your D? My guess is that ECs will help any application- and my grey hair can attest to the fact that no matter how likely your child is to be admitted on paper, you’re still going to stress until that “Congratulations” appears! May as well limit some of it. Maybe you two can do something together. A cake- decorating class? Gardening? Zumba classes? Volunteer at a hospital or animal shelter? Officiating for a sport your D likes? There has to be something fun out there for her! Good luck! :)

MomofWild: YOU ARE VIOLATING THE TOS. You have no right to provide any unsolicited personal information about another member. Besides being unethical, it is decidedly creepy. Really creepy. And makes CC a less than welcoming place. Please go buy some yarn and occupy your hands doing something constructive. K? Thanks.

Walker, lay off… MOW isn’t doing anything wrong… regular posters remind people all the time of previous posts others have made, even if under other screen names. And if SteveMA was unhappy, it would be their bone to pick, not yours.

No, sorry. I won’t lay off. It’s unethical to give out personal info that isn’t yours to give out. Especially when it is about a MINOR.

Not to mention that the nature of MomofWild is doing (and this isn’t new) is a form of bullying.

SteveMA has disclosed her gender on CC several times in the past. It’s not news.

Walker, SteveMA has stated that her D is a golf recruit here on CC, so…?

Walker- I did not disclose personal information about a minor or violate anyone’s privacy. Many posters, including Steve, have shared so much personal information that it doesn’t take much to figure out exactly who they are or if they have come back with a new screen name. Are YOU just another screen name for Steve? You sure seem to post in tandem!

Waa Waa Waa.

*yawns at stupidity.

If I recall correctly SteveMA declined to mention the sport so that the D would not be identified.

Nobody is disclosing any secret info musicmerit.

Walker, is there some reason you are taking this thread off topic? How about if you PM with people if you have a beef?

I didn’t take it off topic. That award goes elsewhere. You’re welcome.

I think the best question…posed early on by someone other than me (although I agree) is…what IS this student doing besides going to school. ECs don’t need to be sports at school, or band. They could be babysitting, working, helping in a family business, volunteering, having a paper route. What IS this student doing beside going to school?

All depends on the school your wanting to go to but I find that ECs things you enhoy doing not being forced to do them

Edit: Video games don’t count or else I would put them down ;)

Oh crud! Video games don’t count?? My freshman is in trouble then! No, actually, his online gaming has encouraged him more and more and he has become quite the little social butterfly (in the nerdy/geeky circles) and is even starting a Magic club (Magic, the Gathering - the card game). A few weeks ago I took him to a friend’s house to play Brawl, and it turns out that friend is a senior. There are also seniors in his Magic club.

There have been so many excellent suggestions on here as to EC’s. I am keeping them all in mind for my freshman, and even my junior, who I think definitely needs a job this summer… I wonder if the OP has had a chance to check back in?

As to topic vs. off-topic, it does seem as though a certain poster (Not SteveMA or Walker)took the thread in another, more personal (and not directed at OP kind of personal) direction…

I think post #16 was when it went off topic. MOWC made a valid point about Stevema’s D’s EC. Not every student could have one very focused EC and could also bring in merit money for the EC. Stevema’s kid’s experience is not one which could be applied to all. Stevema also think all kids could fund their own college tuition through merit scholarship, which also isn’t true for most kids. There are many readers of CC. It is important to point out one person’s experience is not always applicable to the general population.

I don’t think Steve was implying at all that her particular experience applies to all students…

We are all entitled to our opinion.
