Extra Curricular Music?

Hi everybody, i am a transfer student from University of Auckland, New Zealand. I am hoping to get into UCLA for the august quarter (Still haven't heard though!)

Im studying economics and finance, but one of the main reasons i want to go and check out LA is because i'm a musician (drummer/percussionist) and i want to get involved with music and meet musicians at the university (the standard of music is much higher and there is much more going on in LA than here in NZ).

Do you think that this is possible within one quarter even though i am studying commerce and not music?

Do you think i will be able to play with musicians at the university even though i don't have my drum kit with me and i will be completely new and know nobody etc?

Any help or information in this area would be greatly appreciated as i would be disappointed if i didnt manage to fulfill my musical endeavours while im there.

Thanks
