Extra curricular suggestions

I’m a ballerina and UPenn CAS is my dream school. I want to study economics. I’m going to start my junior year in the full IB diploma in july. I have summer break going on till then. Can somebody suggest how can I build around my interests? (my interests include ballet, economics, environment) let me know, thanks

I know of few dance schools that can’t use extra help. Perhaps get a job there? There may be jobs with your municipal or state parks authority – lots of hard work but you’re definitely outdoors and hopefully assisting people engage nature.

Frankly, any job is worthwhile – you’ll see how business decisions are made – the hows and whys and the areas of difficulty in running a business successfully.

Are you who I think you are :stuck_out_tongue:

Is competing at YAGP good enough?

Our daughter will be in the same boat. Ballerina. YAGP. I think that’s all good. I’ve gotten feedback that getting some volunteer work or real work would be something that would interest colleges. Our daughter dances with her company for under-served communities where kids get to see the ballet for free. The other thing we will look into will be clubs at school that meet only in the mornings since she has to be in the studio each afternoon. She may find a few that interest her and give it a shot. Luckily, our high school has many clubs that meet before school starts!

I’ve talked to many parents at our studio and they are pretty sure that colleges understand the work involved in being in a pre-professional ballet company. I’m sure that the 25-plus hours a week in the studio will viewed very positively!
