Extra Curricular

Regarding EC's

Let's say you play a sport and you have won some titles like sectional championship.

In the Comm APP, under EC field where it says details, accomplishment, honors:

would you mention the titles or talk about your experience, what you learnt, what impact it had on you instead of mentioning the certificates, awards, titles. As you know there is only so much space.

Also it gives you option to check mark grades you were involved in a activity, How about extra curricular activity you were involved prior to high school?

You can list upto 10 ECs, is that correct?

I think that field has a 150 character limit. You may use it to mention all titles/letters you have earned, awards and accomplishments.

Mention major accomplishments prior to high school only if you consider them important/impressive enough. Other than that, adcoms are not really interested in you minor EC involvement earlier than 9th grade.

Yes, the Common App allows you to list up to 10 activities. However it is not recommended to list 10 just for the sake of filling the blanks in. Only use all of them if you have significant ECs that you think are essential.

If the achievement/Significant EC is prior to 9th grade, how can you mention it? Prior to 9th grade is not a choice on CA.

Other question I had was, let’s say you have won a title, do you just mention that or you mention what you learnt, how it changed you etc.

You mention it in the field below the number of hours of the activity. That’s your best option. However if it requires further details and explanation, you might want to explicit your accomplishment or EC in the Additional Information box in the Writing tab.

Just mention the title. The activities section of the common app is only descriptive of your ECs. You may find another place to explain how an EC shaped you in your essay, or in short takes if your choices have these.
