I am a person who really doesn’t care about extra curriculars, and I only do them because its almost essential now in American colleges (decent ones at least).
These are my ECs:
- German Club
-Quiz Bowl
-Engineering Club
-Pre-Med Club
-Part time job at Best Buy
I do enjoy these clubs (and my job), but is it enough? I’m not looking to go to an Ivy school, but instead a very good private college at my state.
From what I’ve seen/heard…probably not.
You’re doing better than I am. I’m currently a sophomore and my only EC is Police Explorers at my local PD lol
Yes, don’t put in a laundry list of EC’s.
The universities want to see passion for a specific need or cause. Your part-time job should be sufficient. Quiz bowl takes a LOT of time.
When you have 20-30 EC’s, the adcom starts to wonder how many of these are being used as padding of the resume.
I honestly don’t get why a lot of people here are obsessed with getting a bazillion ECs on their applications; in many cases it’s quality over quantity; I only did about 4-5ish ECs in high school, but I committed a lot of time into them and was able to get a lot out of them.
Do what you like, and put your effort into them.
