If I have my tuition payed for with my scholarship and grant money, and still have a couple hundred dollars left over, can I use that money to buy books?
(and please don't tell me that all school's financial aid offices operate differently; just tell me what happened in your experience, or if you are somewhat intelligent on the matter, what you think would happen with the extra money.)

Thanks! ;)

My daughter paid for her tuition, fees, books, meal plan and dorm with scholarship/grant money and has excess money which will be refunded to her which she can use for travel expenses and miscellaneous. (all are costs included in her COA).

I always have money left over, you can use it for books or for shoes, no one will check what exactly you will buy. But the consideration is that clearly tuition is not the only cost of college, you need food, shelter , clothing, books, junk, the extra money can be used for any of those things that you deem necessary... even an ipod.

My son also had an excess and it was refunded to him for other living expenses.

Yes, anything included in cost of attendance (which in almost every school I've seen includes books) is permitted to be paid with financial aid. If there is extra after the cost of tuition, it will be refunded to you (or some schools allow you to buy the books on the student account to begin with).
