Cure cancer or go on a road trip to California or something.

^ agreed.

Or just enjoy your time while doing sth productive like a summer job or even volunteering.

I’m confused. You want to do something extraordinary that prepares you for senior year? I’m sorry but you can’t have your cake and eat it too. You must choose between something extraordinary like swimming in the Black Sea or doing something that prepares you for senior year like visiting colleges and writing essays.

online course. classes at the local CC. volunteering at the local library or hospital or senior center. build houses for the homeless. get a job. get some good novels. get some good books on a subject you’re interested in. get ahead on the books you’re going to read in English class senior year. [study. draw. write. submit pieces. do camp nanowrimo](https://www.udacity.com/). open a lemonade stand. get involved at your local house of worship. visit colleges. start your applications

Just do something you will enjoy. It is too late to get an internship or research assistant position. Volunteering is probably your best bet.
