Whatever you bring, pack it in large see thru plastic bags inside your duffle. It will make it much easier to identify items quickly when you have to sort out what you can keep or not keep when you report. You won't get much time to pull out the stuff you can put in your big green duffle.

as far as socks go, we are NOT supposed to bring any extras. They will give us tons of socks, so don't worry about running out (unless you don't do laundry!) After beast we can buy extra socks, but until then, we have to wear what we are given.

You should be allowed to wear the sock liners. And on hot days with lots of marching, those liners should help your feet.

The ziploc bags should be large enough to hold folded teeshirts, etc. When you're in the field during your last week of Beast, these bags will protect your underwear from getting wet and moldy from the rain. You'll just love having dry underwear.

Sunscreen is critical - especially for the boys whose scalps have not been exposed to the sun before.

Even though you won't have much time for it, I believe you'll be supplied with writing materials. You'll want to bring stamps and perhaps pre-addressed envelopes or at least a list of addresses.

If you feel stressed--WRITE HOME. We got 21 letters from our cadet during Beast. She told us later that it was her "therapy". If she wanted to she could to "unload" in her letters without having to worry about repercussions or what other people might say. We kept her supplied all summer long with self addressed stamped envelopes and she kept on writing. We wrote her almost everyday, sent newspaper clippings, cartoons, photos (printed right on the letter), etc.
Only a few more days now!!!!
