I am having a non teacher mentor send a reccomendation letter to the schools I'm applying to. Many schools say that they welcome these recommendations, most of them don't say how to send it in. Is there some generic way that its assumed everyone sends these in?

Contact the school to ask how you should send it in. Check first because some schools specifically discourage extra letters of recommendation.

When my son did this, he had them sent snail mail to admissions. He sent labels to the recommender to use for each one - one label went on the letter itself and the other on the outside of the envelope.
The labels read:
Supplemental materials for John Doe
College class of 1776
Student of Smith High School
Everytown, TX
(obviously not real info above…)
A couple of the Ivys sent letters to the recommender thanking him for taking the time and that such letters help them get a better picture of the applicant. It was a high profile person, so I am guessing this was done at least in part to make sure he actually wrote the letter!

If the college accepts additional rec letters (check carefully because many specifically tell you not to send any additional letters), you simply need to have it mailed to the applicable admissions office (sometimes it has another name like registrar’s office), the address for which is available for any college on-line. Letter needs to provide enough information to connect it to your admissions file and usually all that requires is your name and identity of high school (more if you share a name with someone else in your high school who is also applying).
