extra recommendations

im getting 2 high school teacher recs and one from my counselor.
also, i want to get one from an outside teacher who knows me well.
on what form should the outside teacher write the rec?
i know he cant use the pomona app for high school teacher, therefore should he just type it on a paper and mail it?

no, always use the forms they provide, they hate it when you throw something strange at them. call the admissions office and ask what to do.

My son sent 2 extra letters one from a coach and 1 from a community representative re a succesful group he started. He did not use Pomona's forms for the extra recs .

arizonamom, then what did your son use for extra recommendations?

bump.......

They were on the respective writer's letter head in a narrative form

no, i mean what form did your son use.
did he use the pomona's teachers' reference form? or did the teacher write the rec on a separate sheet of paper and mailed it?

also, are prospective students discouraged to get extra recommendations?
i read that on Stanford and Columbia's website.

They are discouraged if they repeat what is already said in other recs. If they address a whole new aspect of your skills and experiences and add to reps getting a fuller picture of you they are welcomed. Too many would not be helpful as they have limited time. My S only used the Pomona forms for the one's requested teacher/counselor. If it was someone outside of that then use letterhead. If you are just doing teachers then use Pomona's forms.

I have a phenomenal letter of rec from my journalism advisor, will that "show a different side"? My other recs are from my calc and lit teacher. and can I just use the common app form and print out an extra? thanks
