extra recommendations

How many people are sending in more than the two recommendations requested by most colleges? Do colleges want you to send in more?

It depends on the college.
Some highly discourage it.
But even if they encourage it, you shouldn't send in too many extra, one or two at the most.

^ Yes, and if you do, MAKE SURE that the recs don't say the same thing!!! If they do, colleges will get annoyed. So choose people who know your sons in different ways.

When D applied EA, she did send a few of the schools 1 or 2 extra recs if we felt it would help (and if the school indicated it was OK to do so). She actually sent 4 to her 1st choice school - one academic teacher, the GC, and an extra from her HS newspaper adviser (she applied for Journalism) and one from a family friend who works at a major network and is an alum of the school. She did get accepted. So, I think it would depend on the circumstances.

hahahaha well i've called PENN and they said i can send AS MANY AS I WANT
so.. yeah it really depends on colleges

haha wow that's awesome.
If you look at Yale's website, they say that they highly discourage all supplementary materials, and if the supplementary material is bad, it *will *count against you.
Ouch.
Which is why I didn't apply there :]
