Do colleges see if you get special setting/extra time? This kid at my school is extremely smart but somehow managed to feign a disability and worked her way into extra time. I don't think its fair, but I was curious as to whether or not colleges will see this?

no they don't see it. maybe there is a disability that you just don't know about?

yea maybe ..but umm..does CB give EXTRA time for disabilities...
in that case....
how much?
lol

yes. you can get either time and a half or double time. but you have to have a diagnosed learning disability and be recieving accomadations at your school.

i think the time is unlimited and people get to use the bathroom any time they want.... i heard stories that some just used pocket dictionaries and called people to ask for the answer

trust me that is definately not how it works, I know from personal experience. and yes, you do get more bathroom breaks but never in the middle of a section

but people can go back cant they.... its not too hard

not really. I mean going back is just as illegal as it is if you have regular time

The extra time (or other accommodations received) is up to College Board.

From other threads, I've heard numerous stories of how hard it is to get a disability recognized by CB -- even with current testing and an IEP that contains the accommodation you want. Whatever it used to be, now (since flagging nonstandard administrations was stopped due to settlement of a lawsuit) it seems to be difficult to get accommodations. I question how someone could feign a disability -- he would have to fool an expert, have a consistent educational history (is some excellent student suddenly going to be found dyslexic in 11th grade, for instance?), be given an IEP by the school system (which usually tries to deny service and disabilities, according to the special needs community), and then successfully run the gauntlet of CB (which is prone to losing paperwork, not getting back to people, and the like).

It is possible to be both gifted and learning disabled, BTW.
