I won an international piano competition in middle school. Am I allowed to put this down under my extracurricular activities section, or does it have to be high school? And will they check and realize it is middle school?

Also are they actually going to read the Additional Info page, because I have so much stuff and no where to put it? And do they care about the dates you won your competitions?

I have the choice between putting down 1st place in a regional competition during high school, or 3rd place in an international competition but during middle school, in the blank provided

Depends on the competition. Whats the name of it?

It’s a competition mainly for people under 18. I competed in the year it was made. I probably should not give out the name for the sake of anonymity. I don’t think it is too large though.

well if the competition doesn’t have much reputation, then its not worth putting, especially if it was in middle school

Well, will they know its in middle school?

unless you don’t mention the year (which is suspicious if you don’t), the competition number (which is suspicious if you don’t), they will know

also, if you have only this one single “international” competition, and nothing else, they will not think much of it because there are a ton of local level competitions that call themselves international

The second point is assuming that the competition isn’t like Tchaikovsky or the ones at some of the famous camps

On the Common App, it literally gives me no space. Do they expect me to put years next to all the things I say?

That is why many students upload a complete resume as part of the Common App. The form they have for putting in EC’s really sucks. Just make sure your guidance counselor reviews it first.

I read that that looks pretentious though. Also do they expect me to upload a resume? Like basically, are most kids putting in dates or am I not alone?
