Extracurricular Help

Hi, I'm a sophomore ( about to become junior ) and I have only one extracurricular activity to my name and little community service work. It's a mixture of both my own complacency and life in general. I move around a lot ( I once stayed at a school for only two weeks ) and I tend to live far away from my schools combined with the fact everyone I know who has a car also works a lot. I was planning on joining a sport, but my mother told me I couldn't.

So, as a junior and senior, can I make up for the fact my freshman and sophomore years are severely lacking? Will it hurt my chances of getting into one of my dream colleges ( Duke, Brown, Swarthmore or Amherst, Harvard (reach school), and such )? I do know I'll have to work extra hard in other areas, but some advice could help.

If you move around a lot then it is understandable that you have little time to establish a base from which you can undertake extracurricular activities. Colleges will see the same thing. The only thing you must maintain is the academic record. If you can, attempt to at least find another activity to join in that won't be dependent on school (like a self-study of a subject and college courses during the summer).
