I think I am really falling behind with activities and I am a sophomore. I want to participate more, but I am just fresh out of ideas. I joined two clubs this year but I am no longer interested in them. There are no clubs (or good clubs) in my school related to my interests (history, politics, international relations, basically liberal arts).

Does anyone have any ideas of good opportunities, clubs, activities, volunteering that might be related to my interests and might not necessarily be for school. I dont even think starting a new club would be much of a success, since not too many people are completely interested in politics... if I do start a new club though, it would be MUN.

I should mention that I am also Hispanic, so clubs relating to that might be helpful.

Try finding competitions and doing a lot of independent work. IF you're shooting for private universities, your interests and passion will be nice and packaged in that regard. There are national history day competitions and so on. Commitment, devotion, and excellence do not need to be necessarily expressed in club format.

hi fellow hispanic dude, maybe you should try startinga new club that isnt necessarily part of you interests, who know, maybe you might end expanding these interests of yours.

You bring up alot of interesting points however the problem is, I dont know where to start looking for these ideas to do independant work, and competitions. The only competition I do know is National History Day and the publication Concord Review. Would you happen to know any other competitions, publications, ideas, opportunities, activities, clubs, etc where I can work with my interests? :)

megaman123, hey, about engaging in things other then my interests... I might join a club or do an activity which may not be my core interest, for example, I have a passive interest in genetics, and physics but by no means will I consider starting a club... thats a big committment for me to take on with something that I might not like.

Do a google search and browse the HistoryChannel website since I just found the UK version and there is a list of competitions. I would also look under scholarship searches for opportunities. IF you live near a university or college whatever, try seeking opportunties to expand your history knowledge. (There are sometimes programs integrated into their department websites.)

I can't think of any others right now...

Bottom line: It's about taking initiative. Be creative (and make sure the history department at your school is aware of your efforts ;)).

I should add that I am also interested in business and entrepreneurship, I am finding opportunities to create my own business. But its not really my greatest interest, like politics, history and international relations.
