Extracurricular Question

I'm new to this site, so I'm not sure if this is even the right place to put this thread, but I just had a few questions about my extracurricular activities.

I'm a junior right now and my big extracurricular involvement has been in sports. I run cross country and track, and in the summer and winter spend a majority of the time conditioning. All in all, I am participating on my school team or a club team almost year round. However, this has somewhat limited my other extracurricular activities. I am able to be in a few clubs, but not have much involvement in them because of my time commitment to my sport. In a normal season, I usually spend 2.5 to 3 hours a day after school at practice, and usually have long meets throughout the week or on Saturday. I was wondering if mainly having only extracurricular involvement in sports would hurt my chances of getting into a good college? I am able to do more stuff in the summer with free time. I really like running, which is why I put so much time into it. I just wonder if joining some other clubs would be beneficial as well.

Sorry for being so long, and any comments are greatly appreciated.

You need to try and get a leadership position on your sports team if at all possible to look at the best. During the summer, try finding either a job or volunteering somewhere with possible leadership positions available.

Thanks.
Any idea on whether colleges would prefer volunteer hours or a job more.
Also, I think I will probably be cross country and track captain my senior year, possibly track captain junior year. Thanks again.

What admissions officers DON'T want is someone creating a resume instead of living a life.

So would you say that it's better to put time into the things I really like doing than joining clubs just for the sake of a resume? I've always felt this way, but I was curious to see what others thought.

gg - I think your ECs demonstrate "passion" for running, which is a very fashionable buzz word on CC. According to many, passion for one thing is more important than a "taste" of everything. I think you'll be fine.

Just curious, what kinds of schools will you be applying to?
