My main extracurricular activites are cross country, indoor track, and outdoor track, which I do basically all school year. I know that I will put these down as extracurricular activities on applications. However, over the summer, I also spend about 8 weeks (on average 10 hours per week) conditioning for cross country. Can I include this as an activity? The only reason I ask is because it is not official practice. The team meets up informally, but since it is mostly just conditioning, can I still include this, or should I leave it off?

You are saying that, in addition to your work with the team, running is your hobby. That’s cool and you should list it as thus. You’re being honest and you’re not wasting your time by doing nothing productive. Your passion for your sport and your fitness are to be admired.

runnergirl, Yes, you should include it!

They might just assume you do this as part of Cross-Country, but it’s probably worth noting, especially if you’re going to write an application essay on Cross-Country or something. I’m also a fellow Cross-Country runner (6 years) with a similar situation, since the sport has become such an important part of my life.
