Extracurricular Section of Applications

I just had a question about the extracurricular section on not only the common app, but all apps. I had to make up an activity sheet for English last year, and included my interests and activities, similar to what they make us do on the application. When looking at the common app, it only gave me a drop down menu, and not enough slots to include what I did and some of my activities could not be grouped into those categories.

Now, I asked my guidance counselor about this. He told me to leave that part blank, and just write "forthcoming," and that he will send it when he sends out all of my other information. However, he told me to answer the short answer question about which activity has influenced me greatly.

Is this acceptable or do I have to do that dumb drop down menu part?

What activites can't be grouped?
You know there's a place to put the activity name.
Fill out the section. You can send a more elaborate resume with your counselor things.

I was thinking the same thing. On my common ap download it has space for 7 but mentions something about attaching a "resume" sheet as well? Anyone else sending an additional fact sheet? Are there rules for sending these (ie: no more than one page)
