I was wondering if its okay/not bad if I write my extracurricular supplement on something that isn't on my Activities list?

I want to write about photography and how its affected the way I perceive the world around me and how it's been a symbol of how my view of the world around me has changed as I grew up.

I didn't list photography as an extracurricular because I didn't take any classes, my dad just taught me how to use a camera and set up shots when I was little, and I didn't want it to seem resume packer-y.

Would then writing about it in Common App affect my application negatively?

If it is important enough to write about, maybe you should put it as an activity in your list. I don’t think you need to have taken classes if it is truly a strong interest of yours.

I think it’s a idea that you could really use to your advantage. It explains about you as a person and gives you another dimension other than just a student. I say go for it and good luck!

I’m just worried that they’ll perceive as being “resume packer-y” if I put it in my extracurriculars because I am not an art major. However, it really did affect me a lot and I think it won’t be nearly as dry as if I do “Mock Trial” or another extracurricular such as that.

^No.You should put it in the list. It’s something you’re passionate about and Im assuming you spend time on photography?
If you feel uncomfortable about putting it on the list,it’s still perfectly fine to put it in your essay.
