Hi! I’m a sophomore in high school, and I’m interested in majoring and working in business. My goal is to get into a reasonably competitive school, maybe even apply for an Ivy League if I think I have any chance of getting into it. Aside from getting into a good school, I also want to get more experience in business/marketing/investing/etc because I’m very interested in it and want to make sure it’s a good major for me. I’m doing FBLA and hoping to create an app or website that generates some revenue, but what other extracurriculars can I get involved in to further my skills in business? Thank you for the help!
Maybe an internship somewhere?
Does your school run a chapter of DECA? If it does, I’d suggest joining. If not, you could look into starting a chapter, though it looks like a business/econ/finance teacher would have to run it. If starting/joining DECA isn’t possible for whatever reason, I second @southernbelle16 's suggestion of looking for an internship.
@southernbelle16 I definitely want to look into an internship! I live in a pretty small town though, so I’m not completely sure how to find internships nearby. Any suggestions? @ThatPurpleKoala My school doesn’t have a DECA chapter as far as I know, so I could look into that! Thanks for the idea!
DECA is another good idea, I forgot about that. Does anyone know if you can be involved in it without your school participating? I have the same problem as you, I also live in a small town. Maybe ask your parents if they know anyone, look at small businesses, ask people at school?
I’m not sure as far as DECA goes, but thanks so much for the help… I’ll definitely try all those things!
