As of right now my EC's consist of:
Crew
Cross Country
National Honor Society
Literary Magazine

This is my second year in crew and I don't like it as much as I used to. If I quit now would it look really bad on my application? When I joined as a freshman on the name i thought i'd do this for all four years of high school, but now i've realized how much time of my social life it's consumed.

If I don't do crew next year I'd join the Outdoor Track team or try to start an ultimate frisbee team at my school. The thing is I like the sport I still kinda see myself doing it in college, but it's just that our team has 100+ people so things get really hectic. A lot of people don't get to row on regatta days and a lot of people don't show up for practice so we end up not having enough people to row with.

You should look at doing ECs for YOU - not a college.

That said, two of my kids got into highly selective schools. My D quit basketball after two years, but played softball for 4 years, and my S quit wrestling after 2 years to concentrate on baseball for 4 years. And of course they did other things, including NHS, but not that much more, because as you know - and the colleges know - it takes a LOT of time to play sports.

The bottom line IMO, is to do what you like, and what you have time for.

Good luck.

ps: You really have 100+ on the team, but don’t have enough people show up???
Time to change Coaches… “Creating and Leading A Mutiny” might look interesting on your EC List!

What do you mean by creating and leading a mutiny?

A mutiny is when a group of people under a leader became highly dissatisfied with that person’s leadership and decide to “take them out of the picture.” nugraddad is suggesting that you gather supporters and lead them in overthrowing this ineffective coach. Doing so would creatively show leadership skills and initiative on your own part for something you care about which might make you a more interesting applicant.
