Extracurriculars Outside of School?

Just wondering. What are some other extracurricular activites outside the clubs and sports at school that would look good on an application?
Thanks.

volunteering, part time jobs, and probably being some kind of activist in environment or gay rights or something like that...(don't take the last one seriously)

On a college application does it ask you about volunteer work?

Some do, some don't. But if it's something you're really passionate about you could write your essay on it.

at lot of the apps I've seen ask about it in the activities and stuff section, only some of them only list the major volunteering groups like red cross so if you choose some small local ones you'll only have the essay left for it...

Volunteering. Getting really involved in an organization.

civil air patrol

My goodness, there's a whole world outside of school! Just look around and you're bound to find something that interests you. I was just saying somewhwhere else you must remeber that its the quality, not quantity that counts! Good luck :)

I'm the editor of the teen section for the local daily news, I'm the student rep to my district's school board, and I'm in this organization which recognizes the negative connotations associated with teens and tries to correct them by encouraging and recognizing teen achievements throughout the state.

there are SOOOOO many opportunities outside of school. the only EC i have at school is student government (I guess that's a pretty big commitment though)

Um, I do a lot of math/science contests outside of school. It's not really an EC I guess, but um, it still looks good? That's not the reason I do it though, but I guess that might be some stuff you want to try?

And there's also research, but that's kind of hard to get started on your own (at least, compared to contests and stuff).

play an instrument for fun
