Hi! I love writing poetry and I really want to express it through my EC’s but I don’t really know a lot that involves them. Any ideas?
You can submit your poetry to the Scholastic Art and Writing competition for a chance to earn recognition. The next round of entries can be submitted in September so that gives you time to work on them.
Also, submit some pieces to a literary magazine for possible publication.
Does your HS have a literary magazine? If so get involved – submit your work, go to meetings, perhaps you can become and editor down the road.
Schools in my state have literary magazine and poetry club.
Try submitting your poetry to as many magazines )like “Rattle” they accept poems from students,) then you can state that you are published poet. If there are any county, state or national poetry contests eg. Poetry Out Loud, that might help your application. I do know that many of our Poetry Out Loud winners do well at top schools. You can also join a poetry club or organize your own with readings in your area. Good luck and whatever you do, continue writing.
