I know for a lot of people this is insignificant, so sorry for posting this. I just really needed help deciding. I was wondering if colleges prefer I take one sport all year long for 4 years or 3 sports per year. Which one would save time(consider APs and stuff)? by the way, if I did one sport year round only part of it would be at school, the rest would be private, paid training. In case your wondering, the year round sport would be swimming or the three sports: tennis, basketball, and swim. Thank you so much in advance!!

If you are considering a athletic scholarship, narrow it down to one sport and stick with it. Coaches do consider if you train year round with a private trainer or not. It shows passion for the sport and a desire to achieve.

I know I’m not getting recruited for doing a sport. and its not for a scholarship. Its just what would give me a better chance of getting selected into a school.

Unless you want to do something sports related, I don’t think extracurricular sports will be a major deciding factor. The first thing colleges will look at is your high school performance: GPA, SAT score, course load etc.) If you are slightly under-qualified with your academic credentials, then the college may take extracurriculars into consideration (don’t quote me on this) So in my opinion, the more the merrier :)

Play sports that you enjoy!

Don’t make decisions based on what complete strangers might (or might not) consider important at some point in the future. There are no guarantees in the formula of college admissions, especially in terms of ECs. Even if there was, you would be ill-served doing an activity every day in an attempt to earn adcoms’ approval.

The percentage of colleges that even consider ECs in admissions is small - a few dozen. The other couple thousand of college look exclusively to your academic record.

Your high school years should be filled with enjoyable memories, not the drudgery of fulfilling the expectations of others.

Thanks for all the feedback^^^
