Marching band, Varsity golf and Varsity chess! This is the year I get to be a co-brass captain, Golf VP, and Secretary of Chess!

@ambers58 wow! that’s really impressive!! what is HOSA like?

@codemachine that’s really cool!

@raffie HOSA is a health club where we do, and volunteer, tour hospitals and med schools, and have speakers come in after school. It’s really fun and there are the competitions where you act as EMTs debate, then win medals and go on to nationals

(Role-play stuff is quite easy)

Marching band - I have played trumpet since the fourth grade. By high school I was among the better players in the section, which of course has changed now that I haven’t played in a year, haha. But I enjoyed playing. I enjoyed the camaraderie, even if I often butted heads the people (everybody thinks they’re the best in the trumpet section). One year we went to a BOA regional and performed in what was basically a hurricane. I’m talking sideways rain, high winds, losing plumes right off our heads. We got a standing ovation from the dripping wet audience as we left the field. They gave us the chance to do it over, as no doubt the monsoon had adversely affected our technique and our sound. We said no. We had left our hearts on that field. Nobody gave up or stopped playing during that performance. We were all in it together and we didn’t want to redo a moment that was, if technically less than our best, full of emotion. That day will always be what band is all about for me.

HOSA sounds like so much fun! I wish my school had one! My big EC is horseback riding, specifically eventing. I’ve been working with the same horse for 5 years now and I love him so much even though he can be a pain. We have really become a team over the years, and it just makes it that much better when we achieve something. Also love doing stuff with the church youth group. We went and repaired houses this summer. I also participate in FCA at school. I’m in French Club but really all we do is design our tee shirt and talk about when we are all going to go out to eat crepes together lol.

@bodangles Marching band sounds so fun!! Everyone always says that people in marching band were the most fun.
@madeline25 that’s so cool that you do horseback riding!! very exciting

@raffie I can confirm. Our marching band is the coolest club in my school. We’re a proud fraternity

Newspaper and quiz bowl were my two favorites.

Newspaper. It’s a class but you have to stay after school to photograph events now and again.

Newspaper, for a trillion reasons – that’s how I met my girlfriend.

JCL (Junior Classical League)! Ahhh it’s wonderful… the people are the nicest I’ve met anywhere, there’s so much to learn and there’s something for everyone.

@gotmar What’s Junior Classical League?

^ Latin Club, essentially. Also a proud member, myself. We compete, throw a party on Saturnalia, and just bask in the Classics :slight_smile:

@codemachine @ambers58 There’s also a national convention (that I’m actually leaving for tomorrow) where I’ll take tests, do Latin oratory and dramatic interpretation, compete in sports, and play a quiz-bowl game called Certamen.

Ah, Certamen. Our team always did pretty well in our state competition, but we’re up against a lot of preppy schools. Have fun! Be sure to report back!

I competed in the Indiana Economics Challenge with a team of 3 others. It was fun mainly because my teacher was awesome and I did it with a couple friends, but I am interested in the materail.

Colorguard, Model UN, and heading the literary magazine at the local middle school (:
