Extracurriculars

If I joined a club and participated few times in the meetings of the clubs, can I put it in the extracurricular involvement for admission application?

sure. But that plus a dollar will get you a sweet tea at McDonalds.

I’m also pretty sure you have to include how much time you devoted to each extracurricular activity

Why bother? No one cares that you were a member of a bunch of school clubs. Focus your application on the 2-3 things that were most important to you outside of school. It creates a much clearer picture of who you are and what you have to offer than a laundry list of random clubs.

People seem to think they have to check all the boxes - the school club box, the sports box, the volunteer box, etc… Its as if some memo went out to all the high schoolers saying ‘conform or else.’ Please don’t! My most memorable interviewees were the ones who knew themselves, knew what they loved, and did it without regard for what someone told someone else they were ‘supposed’ to do.

Yeah, you can if you want. Heck, if you can pretty much sign up for every club offered at your school, never attend a single meeting, and still put all those clubs on your app if you want.

However, like the above poster said, it’s not worth it. Unless you were sick every meeting, had serious schedule conflicts, or contributed something major in those few meetings - chances are you didn’t really put a legitimate amount of effort into the EC. Instead of throwing twenty clubs on your app, just put a couple of your most significant and meaningful clubs.

The CommonApp does ask you to list hours per week, weeks per year, and which grades you participated for each activity/club/EC.

Listing clubs you have only minor involvement in may detract from your overall application.
