I’m well aware that my ECs are not “strong.” I’ve been in student government since my freshman year (Im a sophomore) which was its second year in existence as a group at my school. I’ve also been in NHS since the second half of my freshman year (weekly meetings, 50+ volunteer hours required a year). I also just joined SADD which is brand new to my school. I’m planning on getting a job once I get a car. This spring I will be participating in my schools first “publishing house” in which the current project is publishing a book of letters. Also, I only have most of may and June for summer programs as I take classes in July. I would love any suggestions/etc. over what I can do to better my ECs. Thank you in advance!!!
I think you have a pretty good amount of ECs. But if you want more you can always do speech and debate, academic club, sports, class council, yearbook, and extra volunteer hours
Join something competitive (what are your strong suits?), and then take Cal Newport’s advice and find a passion, then pursue it. Jump at everything that you find interesting, and if you have time, join a sport that you will be able to stay dedicated to for the next 3 years.
If by the time you get a car, you don’t find something you love extremely much: I think that you should be willing to dedicate more time to your job.Jobs show initiation and the ability to support yourself. Colleges have been known to take into account your family income, living situation, and hardships.
Of course, you don’t need to worry about ECs too much if you don’t plan on going to a competitive college.
