Extracurriculars?

I want to major in theatre. Currently, my EC’s include volunteering at the middle school musical in the fall and doing the school musical in the spring. I also take piano outside of school. Obviously this is a very sparse list but, there aren’t really any other EC’s I’m interested in in my school. What should I do?? I’ve considered joining creative writing club because I enjoy writing. But, writing is all of the other member’s true passion and they all take it very seriously and write often. Whereas I write probably once in a blue moon and of course I can make myself write more often but a lot of the member’s writing styles is poetry and the likes whereas I just kind of write fragments of story lines. I don’t want to come across as a slacker or just not bring much to the table. And I’m aware this probably sounds really stupid to most of you but I just really don’t want to join something where everyone else is so much more passionate about it than me. What do you guys think? Thanks in advance!

PS: I’m a freshman

I completely understand you. Its good you want to do things you are passionate about, rather than stuff to list on an application. Colleges will appreciate that you’re dedicated to these activities. If you enjoy writing, then join the club! As long as it interests you. Is there other stuff in your community you could get involved with that has to do with theatre? Perhaps some extra community service? Mentoring?

I’d say maybe find a summer job or winter job because it doesn’t sound like you’re busy in either of those times. Work experience always looks nice – shows your maturity, work ethic, and other characteristics similar.

You volunteer at the middle school musical so that’s good. Generally, the more volunteer work the better (as long as you can keep up your grades) BUT don’t just put stuff on there for the sake it. Find what you love. It seems like you found your music things that you love – maybe when you become better at piano, YOU can give the piano lessons. Or for me, I enjoy animals so I work at an animal shelter for stray/abused little creatures and I worked at the zoo this past summer.

I would recommend double majoring and not only having a theatre major.
