So currently, I’m a sophomore in high school and my extracurriculars are science and math Olympiad, Scholastic Bowl, and HOSA (a health profession club). I’m also have many hours volunteering at a hospital and planning on joining NHS (National Honor Society) and Mu Alpha Theta(Math Honor Society) next year. Would these extracurriculars be sufficient for top schools such as the Ivy League?
You are in a lot of clubs and honors societies, so that is good. If you want to be considered for Ivy League colleges, definitely apply for officer positions in a few clubs. If you hold any position as a junior, there is a good chance that you can move up to either President or Vice President by your senior year. Colleges will like to see you involved, but they care more about HOW involved you are. They don’t want to see a laundry list of clubs on your activities page, but they want to see that you have committed a lot of time to what you are involved in. If you start by becoming an officer junior year, you’ll be in great shape. It’s quality over quantity, so make sure you have that!
