extracurriculars

how important a role do they play in the admissions process? what if someones extracurriculars are awe-inspiring, but though their stats arent spectacular they are not bad

plus, that person is african american

bump.........

You'd have to give details. If the SATs are not above 1950, and the grades are mostly Bs, then the kid will be rejected.

Define awe-inspiring. I would say it's winning international recognition and making a meaningful contribution to society on a global scale.

Im pretty sure sudaneya4ever is talking about herself lol.

hey sudaneya4ever,
you posted your stats a while ago and if I remember correctly, your ecs are definitely strong enough to get you into Harvard. Your stats definitely weren't bad but your ecs were amazing. You're definitely going to get accepted to harvard, especially if you apply early.

techy101.. that was a really encouraging post. I hope youre right! Too bad im not going to apply early :-( I wouldve liked to but I really want the admissions committee to see my senior year grades. I mean i never got C's or anything like that but I just want them to know that I havent/wont get senioritis and that i can get straight A's (bcoz i got lots of B+'s last year)

bump.......

Well if you want more responses you should post ur stats

I plan on making my work and passion for the Crisis in Darfur the main point of my essays/personal statements and how I have realized that I want to spend my life doing humanitarian work. I will also be writing about how I first got involved in it.. which is a long story that traces back to my first ever trip to Sudan... way before the disaster even began.

I would say you have a very good (if not 100%) chance of getting in!

anyone else care to share? thank you docta

Your test scores aren't impressive. OK GPA and very nice courseload. Your major EC passion is community service and Sudan activism- very worldly and amirable passions. Be careful when writing the essay to make it sound the very cliche and tacky "And now I have found what I want to be for the rest of my life" route. It's a very nice topic, and I wish you good luck with that. You have a reach chance, maybe light reach if you work on your test scores.

as i said before: you're in

Ooh I remember your chances post now! Yeah, your EC's are definitely up there.

does anyone else have some insight they would like to share?

I assume u are applying SCEA. Just send in ur app, enjoy ur senior year and wait for the response!

i'm actually not applying early.. i am going to wait for the RD round bcoz i really want my case to be scheduled by how well im doing [and going to do] during the first semester of my senior year. i will, however, tell the adcom this in my 'additional information' because i really want them to know harvard has always been my first choice
