OK, Honors Program decisions started arriving in mailboxes on Thursday the 13th. Am I wrong to be totally flabbergasted to have been rejected from Honors. Minutes after opening the teeny rejection letter, I started crying a bucket and spent an hour blubbering over the phone to a friend who happens to be brilliant and was also rejected from Honors! Over the past few days, I've heard of NO ONE getting into the Honors Program from my school, and even though there's possibility of getting in later; I'm pretty steamed! Does anyone have any stats or figures to help make sense of this nonsense? How many people did UGA take from their Honors apps. from Early Action and Regular Action people? Must have been a pitiful amount as I heard they RAN OUT OF ROOM after accepting so many from their FF bunch. Is this a mistake on UGA's part? Cause it's sure sounding like it, and they should be ashamed for not planning on an influx of Honors apps. this year and for stringing us all along till mid-April when they plainly said decisions would be out mid-March. Just an absolute total mess they made out of the process this year. There should absolutely be no reason for accepting someone with lower stats early and reject someone with a 92 GPA in a courseload of 10 AP classes and the rest Gifted with a 1480 combined score on the SAT later. Period.

At this point, writing a letter voicing your concerns is probably your best shot at anything. I doubt they'd just suddenly show up at your doorstep with a cupcake and an honors acceptance letter, but it'd show you're pretty ****ed off. I was pretty upset the way they kept pushing back the general application results until March 31 even though I got accepted earlier. They should be able to have SOME guesstimate of applicants for the University based on previous years. I mean, come on. It's not like Georgia's high school senior population suddenly quadrupled behind the scenes, huh?

Sounds like the stats of people rejected from my school. It's certainly dissapointing but its no reason to cry, just take your services elsewhere.

Its my understanding that many of the people accepted early didn't fill out ANY application--FF, Honors or otherwise. They were selected based on raw scores. Many of these folks probably just filled out EA app as a back-up, & they'll likely go elsewhere. It's a shame the way its been handled.

also, in case you guys were unaware, students were given charter scholarships without having to do anything more than the early action app, i.e. their transcripts and SAT scores.

i got in months ago and to tell you the truth, it was so easy to get in then that it turns me off! it does not make the program seem like a prestigous one if everyone in it is not top notch. rethinking my decision to go there instead of ga tech.

Carnut, if you're majoring in anything quantitative, go with Georgia Tech. That seems to be a pretty good rule of thumb- Sciences, Engineering, Computing, etc. If you want to do somethign more liberal artsy and don't want to fork over your left leg to a college, then <winces>UGA Honors just may...may be all right.</winces>

Man, that was hard to say.

lol uga honors is a nice deal. every1 i know in it really likes it there. the only thing that annoys me is their admissions process.

well, i am skipping it. their selection process was a joke. kids that are far more qualified got rejected and kids that are just average go in. and some that go accepted regular are not very smart. very poor planning. i got in but friends that are much smarter than me did not . and it makes no sense. and the only excuse they can give is that they wanted a well-rounded group. ok, it is honors. it is supposed to be for smart people, not politically correct people or big donors or whatever.

I think there are just so many kids I guess, that UGA didn't really know who really deserved it or not. They have a pretty tough job and are forced to make pretty random judgement calls. It's tough for me not to be bitter, but since I like the school, and my other choice is so not realistic, I'm going to just go and reapply after first semester. I just wish I were more excited about going to UGA; I would have been had I gotten into Honors...
