So im a sophmore in high school right now and up until this point I have been top ranked in my class in gpa/test scores........until this year. My classes are not to extreme because my school only offered 1 ap, world history, and 1 honors, english 10(im in both). All of my classes fine though, except APWH. Now I know many people have difficulty with ap world history but my class is a different story....

I dont have any problems with the course itself and i actually find it quite interesting. My problem, and the problem of my fellow classmates, is the teacher. Dont get me wrong she is a very good "teacher", she knows what she is talking about and explains it well. However, her grading methods can only be described as inhuman >_>..

Heres a example. We are almost done with the information we need to cover so we are begining to focus on essays and such. Last week she gave us our FIRST compare and contrast essay that we have had no prior knowledge to (AT ALL!!!). Some didnt finish, however i and a few others managed to get the whole 5 paragraphs in the time limit. So today she spent the entire period talking about the high points of our essay and that we did really good for a first attempt. She then gave us complete 0%s on the essay because it was "good but not good enough". Its really crazy because she admits that this course is the hardest on campus yet she continues to treat our grades like the HAVE to be low because it a difficult course. I managed to drop from a A to a D+...............

Im guess im not really asking for advice but its just frustracting because bringing that up to a A in this class is gonna be impossible. I see all the people on this site taking tons of ap/ib as sophmores and not only am i only allowed one but i have to deal with these teachers. Its annoying because I already got a C in this class last semester for these same reasons and I cant just write why i have a C in this class on my transcipt. I just find it irritating because at the end of the day we are all recorded as taking the same classes but although the AP Exam is knowledge based, the grade methods we get it the classes is really not equally from teacher to teacher.

Sorry for the rant. I just also lost my option of Valedictorian, which wasnt really all that important to me since my school allows people who take all regular classes to become it, but if i was gonna lose my rank it should be for a good reason :C....

We all have and i have individually on multiple occasions. But like i said, she seems to have “good intentions”. The problem is she only cares about if we pass the exam at the end of the year not whether anyone can actually pass the class. Im not saying “oh we are all gonna fail all of our test because she doesnt teach” because many teachers dont, or arent good teachers so you have to teach yourself independantly. My problem is the fact that she just outright gives people 0% on a assignment without actual reason.

Anyway, im not really asking for advice, just frustrated with teachers like this…needed to rant >_>… Though if anyone else has any other teacher issues like this, feel free to vent lol.

@alwaysleah. Oh they know about it, along with all the other issues of the class. The class should of been ending a long time ago about due to the amount of kids failing because, im not sure if its in california or just in my school district, you are only allowed to stay in a AP class if you have a C+ or higher. If a students has below a C the school is supposed to take the child out of the class because they believe that if a student is acedemicly driven enough to take a ap course, then they should not be able to fail it(Of course if the student doesnt turn in anything than thats a different story). Over 50% of the class failed last semester already but the school is basically trying to ignore the situation :/. At this point i already have that C on my transcript so i might as well hold it out till may. Ill just have to get a 5 on the exam to balance it out lol.

@oxycotin. I never said she couldnt grade her class as she pleased. If you actually read my post I actually said the opposite. Anyway, I dont need to step up anything. I spend plenty of time on this class which is why a had a A before the essays, which are based on her opinion. Theres no way to study for a compare and contrast essay so i am pleased with my essay. I just got 100% on 2 test that I took last week so she can fail as many essays as she wants but she wont destroy my transcript like the rest of my class lol.

Then take it to the superintendent. I’m in California and I’ve successfully gotten a teacher reprimanded for unfair grading. You have to take it above the principal if the teacher really isnt willing to change. There is a difference between harsh and unfair.
