EXTREMELY low PSAT scores. Am I screwed?

Okay, so I practice SAT administered by the school so it wasn't the official PSAT. I didn't have the writing section so it was only out of 1600. I got a 990 (500 Reading 450 Math). I'm a sophomore and I've never looked at an SAT Prep Book, SAT Course or SAT tutor before. Next year I plan on getting a private tutor. Is there any hope to get in the 700 range for each section if I take SAT courses, and get a tutor?

anyyone? (bumpp)

Yes, because you are only a sophomore and still have important courses to take that will help increase your scores. Your scores will improve dramatically in the next two years with or without a private tutor. If you are concerned with the National Merit Scholar competition, then you must do well on the PSAT taken during your Junior year of high school. The PSAT, not the SAT, is the qualifying test for National Merit eligibility & qualification. If that is one of your goals, then use a private tutor. If not, then you are doing fine on your own.

That should be enough to answer your question. Unless you have an absurdly bad GPA, it is impossible to be “screwed” as a sophomore

Okay. How hard is it to raise my score that significantly?

It’s not hard to raise your score, and you’re only a sophomore so it will raise itself as long as your in difficult english and math classes.

no wonder you got a 450 on math:
450+500=950, not 990

^lmao,

don’t worry about it… sophomore i had 1900 as my SAT score during practise tests and now i usually get 2100-2200. so thats an improvement of about 200-300. Just work hard and you’ll be fine.

haha my bad i meant 490 on math.

I did horrible as a sophomore and I have decent SAT scores. I got a 46 in math on the PSAT and a 53. I studied and worked at it and now I have a 590 in match and a 720 in reading. Not amazing, but not too shabby either. You have plenty of time to improve.

yes, you really are screwed.

jk, if you buy some useful prep books and become serious about the SAT, you could def. improve.

Ur not screwed, but a 700 is kind of hard. Your scores are average or so and 700 is really far above average. You can always try, but I have yet to meet someone who managed something like that. Going to about 1900 is the max for most people I meet that start out average.
