Extremely low score on practise test... help!

<p>Hello all,</p>

<p>Have registered for the December 4 SAT. Took the first practise test from the Blue Book today and here are the results -</p>

<p>CR - 460
W - 540
M - 570</p>

<p>For Math, I think I could improve it after practising. Same with Writing. But CR, :(
I'm using Kaplan Live Premier Online. I cannot get Direct Hits here in India (takes at least 21-28 days for delivery - won't be of any use in November last week).</p>

<p>So, here is what happens with me --</p>

<ol>
<li>I do not understand "everything" of the passage (some parts seem to be difficult),but I do get the background what passage is all about.</li>
<li>I approach questions. Out of 5 choices, I could eliminate only 2.</li>
<li>This is mainly because of the wordings of the answer. I couldn't catch them at all.</li>
<li>So most of the times, I am confused with the other three. I <em>try</em> to use my instinct, and pick an answer,but it turns out to be wrong.</li>
</ol>

<p>I have some good ECs (<a href="http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1021620-my-chances-hoping-score-2200-a.html%5B/url%5D"&gt;http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/1021620-my-chances-hoping-score-2200-a.html&lt;/a&gt;) and so don't want to miss an opportunity to get into a good college, but this CR is coming in my way :(</p>

<p>I need to improve my vocab. Any online resources for that?(Indian readers, any good books or source to get Direct Hits within a week? If anybody want to sell a used copy,I am ready to buy)</p>

<p>I am reading Digital Fortress by Dan Brown and hope to finish it soon and start with the Inheritance Cycle. </p>

<p>Any suggestions for books that would help me get better at understand and CR?</p>

<p>It’s odd that you can only eliminate two choices. Most of the time, the CR questions can be narrowed down to two similar answer choices. Sometimes, an answer may sound but right but will it is incorrect if there is no proof.</p>

<p>When you are not understanding something in a passage, re-read it slowly for clarity but dont spend too much time doing this.</p>

<p>And a 540 Writing score is low. I advise you looking at silverturtle’s SAT prep guide for the writing section.</p>

<p>You are only going to improve if you keep on practicing.</p>
