Hey guys. So Lafayette has has always stood out to me as unique and just a great school with good size, academics, and community. I vested and it was great and is currently my top choice. I interviewed with a guy in the admissions office and he liked me and was impressed by my character, However, leaving the campus I felt discouraged. The numbers they put on the screen made me cringe. They claimed the 25% GPA was a 3.6 and the 75% was a 3.9. While I’m currently taking 2 APs this year I feel terrible about my mediocre 3.3 gpa. While I go to a rigorous high school I am aware that my grades appear low. I do have a 30 ACT and have many amazing extracurricular including the award of Eagle Scout, I am not sure if my grades make the cut. I also am not an engineering major. I want to study psephology. Is there any significant emphasis at Lafayette. Is the department as strong as they say. I’m lost and need advice.
IMO if Lafayette is your top choice, then apply ED. You have nothing to lose.
Happy, Im afraid that it may waste my ED, and iy could jeopardize my chances at other competitive schools. Does anyone on this forum have any advice
Lafayette values interest. Showing interest via interview, meeting with a rep at your school, or just sending an email can go a long way. ED is another way to show interest.
Lafayette also really does seem to create it’s classes based on more than numbers. I would think not being an engineering student would actually be in your favor. If Lafayette is what you really want, then go all in.
IMO an ED should only be used for a top choice school rather than as simply a way to improve chances of acceptance somewhere. I would never want to get into one school ED and then have regrets about not seeing if I could have gotten into my top choice. But if your intention is to try to get accepted into a college during ED because it is less competitive, then you can look at the Lafayette class profile online, see where you stand and make your decision about where to apply. Also keep in mind that many schools have ED2 so you could apply to Lafayette ED and if that doesn’t work you could always try another school ED2.
I completely agree. If you love lafayette, applying ED will increase your chances at getting in. It shows just how much you want to go there. Don’t be freaked out by the grades and statistics. Your character and the type of person you are has a lot more weight to it then most people think. Being an engineer won’t decrease the chances of you getting in. Lafayette is a liberal arts college with an engineering program, and they don’t want to change that. In my opinion, apply ED to show you love Laf and increase your chances. If you love it. If you get deferred, you can apply ED1 somewhere else. If you’re worried that it’ll decrease your chance of going somewhere else, then you obviously are 100% set to commit to Lafayette so just apply RD.
Was just there yesterday for Junior Visiting Day. I loved it and it reinforced that Lafayette is the perfect fit for me. I’ll most definitely apply there ED this coming fall.
