Extremely nervous, please help me.

you are truly bland...you won a bunch of plaques...big whoop. and you volunteered in a nursing home...who didnt??? you might have a better chance at your local community college. and who cant play the piano these days????? whatever, i bet harvard has enough piano players.

also i got tho the #1 school in the NATION..in jax, fl HAHA sucks to be you

If you assume someone is truly bland without ever having met them, that reflects pretty shallow personality. Also, assuming one's college application reflects who a person really is is presumptuous as well. Next comment, seriously.

Further comments, anyone?

Original Poster: I agree with the opinions RE: instruments. How common, pedestrian, and plebian it is to talk about a love of music. You are a big stereotype. If only you were asian, it would be even closer to the cookie-cutter over-achiever. Ask yourself one thing: Has your high school career been about getting grades, or about learning? You resume builders are all the same, and you WILL be exposed in the end. I do have one constructive suggestion: Go to Cornell. There are many high bridges across deep ravines. These are close and conveniently located places to commit suicide when you get a 3.9! Good luck, and happy jumping!

There has been a tremendous amount of learning in my high school career. I participate greatly in every class I take, and the teachers who are writing my recs have a very high opinion of my intellectual curiosity. My guidance counselor thinks I'm really interesting and she really likes me.

To be honest, my activity list doesn't fully communicate who I am. I wrote an essay about my love of the stock market and my interests in business. I actually trade and win in the stock market, which isn't pedestrian or common at all. It's least of all plebian - I'd like to see myself as above that.

I also greatly enjoy discussing politics, government, and current events. (I have done things like Model Congress, MUN, and Student Council, but they haven't been my main activities) These are the sort of things I think are going to be communicated in my recs and during my interview.

I certainly place a higher value on my life than what you would assume, and frankly, your post was idiotic and presumptuous. I guess if you routinely attack people like that, you won't be very well liked. You didn't really tell me anything constructive, and I'd like to see more well-intentioned comments.

JPrencipe is not looking for an ego boost. His lack of confidence stems only from the fact that so many other highly qualified applicants will be in the pool this year for Princeton. Don't knock him for asking his chances; instead, try and share his enthusiasm. He is clearly a highly qualified candidate who really, really wants to go to Princeton. The fact that he's here on this forum posting regularly shows his sincere interest in this institution.

I can't help but chuckle at the number of posters who are so offended at the fact that he is applying. He clearly has all the credentials of a top-notch Princeton applicant, and yet so many people are prone to post negatively. The fact of the matter is, is that posting negatively in an anonymous forum like this is only a demonstration of immaturity, and you probably don't deserve to go to Princeton anyway. Princeton is a community ripe in intelligence and school spirit. So what if "Joey" is the typical "Asian App Booster?" What do you want him to do? Do you want him to be something that he's not? Do you want him to do things that he doesn't want to do just so that he can fit your stereotype of what a "real" Princeton applicant should be? Those of you who are claiming that JPrencipe is just a typical Asian Over-achiever are paradoxically fulfilling their own stereotype: that of the typical, mediocre, run-of-the-mill applicant who has nothing to more to offer other than "Key Club" and "Webmaster of NHS".

If I was going to Princeton, I would want to go to school with a kid like this. I would want to surround myself with the best of the best. People who are knocking JPrencipe are insecure as hell.

To Joey: Apply with full confidence. You are an excellent applicant and your application will stand out because you continually strive to be the best. But take this as a lesson. Do not allow yourself to manifest your own insecurity in the form of an attack on fellow students. Do not fall into the stereotype of your fellow posters on this forum, or close, fellow students.

Yo Vas. How's it going?

Thank you. This is just about the nicest and most meaningful thing I've ever been told about this process. I should certainly have looked past the insults, because on an online forum, they really don't mean anything.

Yo Vas. How's it going?

And by the way, I had my Princeton interview today, and the alumnus was incredibly smart. Just a genius. And it went really, really well :).

Thanks everyone.

Joey

Any more suggestions?

Joey

Anything else?

that is the biggest crock of BS i've ever read in my entire life. why the HECK would you retake your SAT's?! some people just don't appreciate life.

I've been under a LOT of pressure from my parents on the SAT I Math front. That, and the fact I haven't done any ground-breaking reserach. It's irritating as hell, but what can I say, my parents are subsidizing my college education, if I have to take one more goddamn test, I'll take it, even if it won't mean anything.

Joey

i'm so upset at you.

THREE kids from my high school went to princeton.

one girl wasnt even on top ten.
got a 1300.

SHE GOT IN.

wth is wrong with this world?

no exaggeration there.

Well ... the girl that went to Princeton from your school must have had some serious things going for her. Lots of kids just like me get rejected from Princeton.

Joey

Come on now... come on... do u have legacy to Princeton?

amelia - plays softball for the princeton team now. was number 1. was a national merit scholar. had a 1400 or something. did leadership for 4 years. obviously softball for four years... thats it.

danielle - BLACK. played basketball for 4 years, not for princeton. had a 1400., was ranked number 1. thats all.
