for I-banking, which a big proportion of Stern students want to do,

Do the "good"(top 20) I-banking companies come to Stern to recruit?

Do they hire many people from Stern?

What kind of jobs do they hire for? Analyst positions in the "real" investment banking division? Or support jobs.

I think these are really important, for everyone in Stern and wants to go to Stern. I wish a senior Stern student can kindly answer them^^

Most of the big banks hire at Stern. Off the top of my head:

Goldman, Lehman, Merrill Lynch, Morgan Stanley, Citigroup, BoA, JP Morgan Chase, UBS, and Credit Suisse.

People will get jobs in the front office (the "real" investment banking as you put it) and the back office. They hire a respectable number of students from Stern, but most who apply/interview will not recieve offers. It is highly competitive after all, and Stern does not give you a golden ticket to any job you want.

This should help: http://www.nyu.edu/careerdevelopment/survey/2005/fulltime.php

That being said, you are correct that many Stern students come in wanting to do "i-banking." Most don't end up in i-banking and become interested in other fields like asset management, accounting, consulting, marketing, etc. So don't limit yourself to just one field.

do you know approxiamately how many people per year can get front dest job?(give a number or % will be super good)

liangshengtm, what is a "front dest job"?

i think he means the "front desk job".

Even so, a front desk job where? With what entity? NYU? A firm? What?

sorry guys, a typo, a front desk job of one of the top 20 investment banking companies in New York(most famous ones)

You mean you want to be a receptionist? Why not try to get an internship?

.....no, I wanna be a investment banker(omg, I typed FRONT DESK!!!!so stupid, i didnt mean that word....)

Actually, I don't think this is a practical question at all. Of the 500 or so kids in each class, a lot of them are going to end up in accounting or marketing or IS or something. Even if most kids in Stern major in finance, that doesn't necessarily mean they're looking in the finance field (since you can double major and stuff).

Next, when you break down the finance field, there's a billion things you can do aside from banking - investment mgmt, sales & trading, research, etc. So, if you ask for a number or a %, it's going to be all skewed.

In any case. Yes, pretty much every major ibank recruits at Stern. Does this guarantee you an ibanking job? No. The most important thing is that you want to be an ibanker, you do well in school & extracurriculars, and that your interviewers like you. As long as you make the effort, you'll be fine.

ummm.... anybody else got a opinion to share?

I think the NYU career center site said that Lazard hired at Stern at one point.

Besides that, all the bulge bracket firms hire at Stern.

oh, Stern s really good
