I got accepted by both MIT and Harvard, but now i'm not sure where to go. My interests are in two fields: engineering/science AND business/economics. I heard MIT is definitely better for engineering, but I'm not sure about the other part (business/economics) compared to Harvard. However, Harvard has a better reputation than MIT. Financially, MIT costs me a bit less after grant than Harvard, so I don't think that's really important. So where do you think I should go? Do you know any strong majors at each school? How is science at Harvard, and how is business at MIT?

Both are extremely good, when you're comparing Harvard and MIT, it's difficult to compare schools since both are generally really strong in all areas.

Plus, MIT's business school (sloan) is one of the best in the nation.

So in my opinion it won't really matter were you go for either major, but if it was me I'd do:

Business --> Harvard
Engineering--> MIT

First of all...BRAVO!!! your in a position that i couldnt even dream of:)

well...it all depends on what u wanna do..engineering or business!!
second...as far as i know..both harvard and MIT are extreeemely reputed..but all the rankings ive luked at...MIT seems to be on top. i would guess MIT is good for everything..see a good uni would never want any of their departments lagging behind. But logically speaking, an engineering degree from MIT would carry more value than a business degree from MIT...why dont u major in engineering and minor in business at MIT??..i know someone who actually teaches economics at MIT..and she didnt seem to complain:) so relax...uve got into the two best skools and werever u go...u'll make history :) gud luck with ur choices

I'd say MIT. It costs less and, as Beejay already mentioned, Sloane is one of the top business schools in the country. In terms of engineering, MIT is far superior to Harvard (not that Harvard has a bad engineering program, simply that MIT's is on whole different playing field). And this reputation thing is bull. Harvard is more * well-known * than MIT internationally (which has led to many people viewing it as the holy grail), but MIT is still very well-known especially in the engineering and business fields. I dare you to find me an engineer or economist or any other professional in either field who has never heard of MIT. If I offered you a dollar for each one you find, I'm sure you will barely have enough for a large pizza pie with the topping of your choice.

i'm quite surprised there's even a dilemma here. you said your two interests are science/ergr and business/economics. nobody can beat MIT in science and engineering. MIT's econs department is excellent and rigorous and was even ranked first in some years. Sloan offers undergraduate business degrees and courses, unlike HBS.... and Sloan is VERY good and VERY prestigious. if you're concerned about the strength and availability of the programs, MIT is clearly the winner. MIT has generous and highest-quality helpings of all that you want to pursue. if you're going for prestige, then Harvard wins - by a hair, and may i emphasize, a very thin and undernourished hair that probably fell off a balding man's head. for an obviously smart person you obviously haven't done your research. :)
