Eye Opening - Drug Situation

Apparently I was naive about the prevalence of drugs in my high school. I knew that drugs were a problem at many high schools, but I thought my rural high school was mostly immune.

I was wrong. Somehow we got on the topic in my freshmen Spanish class. The teacher asked who could obtain drugs from someone they knew on any given day at school. All but two said yes. I would have expected that it would be one, maybe two, for no.

What's it like at your high school?

y is it hard to get drugs?

go to a person who takes drugs, hand off money, you know have drugs

it is kinda interesting seeing a drug sale go down, though- whenever u see $200 dollars exchanged in the hallway, it's usually a good sign

our security guards used to sell pot

we have drug dogs and random tests. Socal and weed is rampant (and so is cocaine, but not as much. It's sad how bad cocaine is getting. Pot, yeah that's debatable and could go on forever)

it's like that at all high schools silverturtle

My high school did heroin in the bathroom. I use to do homework in the hallway and watch kids high on drugs come to school totally wasted. I live in the rural midwest too.

all high schools have drugs. it's more a question of how bad it gets: is it just pot and alcohol, or is there crack and heroin? last year there was rampant crack going on at my school, but with the senior class graduating, it's settled back down to just pot and alcohol.'

[edit:] Oh, and to answer how easy it is to get drugs at my school, well people offer you pot at parties for free. you don't even have to buy it, unless you're planning on smoking it seriously.

"y is it hard to get drugs?

go to a person who takes drugs, hand off money, you know have drugs"

As a person who has never used an illicit substance/drank, I can honestly say that even if I wanted to, I would have no idea where to get drugs. People never do drugs in school at my school, although I know that some people do drink on the weekends. I live in a suburb, and have never seen a drug deal take place. I guess I am sheltered, but I don't mind.

^Thats odd. I thought all schools had the same drug issues ours did. I live in a suburb. Im sure your school has drugs, the tweekers are probabaly just smarter (and not as cocky).

suburbs are around cities- if you live anywhere near a ciy (60,000+ population) there will be dealers around

i feel like im handing out info- lol

Janelle09: You're not just sheltered, you're naive. I can think of only 2 educational institutions in America where drugs would not be prevalent: Bob Jones University and Pensacola Christian College. So unless you're at one of those two, there are drugs and you just don't realize it. ;)

I'm pretty sure it's easy to get drugs at any school. You just have to know the right person. And honestly, at my school almost everyone knows the right person.

yeah: signs that you know the person
1. he begins every sentence with "sup"
2. red eyes
3. smells like pot- not really helpful if u don't know the smell(it's a sweet smell)
4. if u go onto their facebook/myspace, they have pictures of themselves drinking
5. they have a rep for being the stoner
6. u saw them doing drugs
7. they are really stupid, but they have an extensive knowledge on drugs( i don't do drugs, it's just that i know a lot of the kids who do drugs)

they want very much to borrow $10

they carry visine but do not wear contacts/have allergies...whatever visines intended use was (relates to #2)

Haha, I guess naive would be a fine word to describe me...ah well, I guess I don't really mind not knowing all the new info about the drugs at my school. I'm not trying to deny that there are drugs in suburbs, I am just saying that I guess I don't know much (anything, really) about the drug scene in my suburb or surrounding cities.

OH WAIT!! Now that I think of it, there is one girl in my AP US Govt. class that talks about smoking marijuana!! Other than that, I think most people know that I don't really enjoy hearing stories of people getting high or whatever, so I am sure many "censor" the stories of their weekends that they tell me!

everybody needs at least one stoner friend

Janelle- I've never done drugs, but if I wanted to I know at least 10 kids I could go to.

I think there are more dealers in my school than actual smokers (exaggeration). It's really hard to find someone who has never tried it.

i've nevr actually seen ppl sell it or do it, (except smoking), but i know many ppl who do.

"our security guards used to sell pot"

lmao...corruption

Drugs are a HUGE problem at my school. I know quite a few people who are regular pot smokers, and I have heard people talking about doing coke, though I haven't heard about any other harder drugs.

I believe that I have seen a drug deal before, and I know that two students were expelled last year for doing pot on a swim team trip. I have also known a drug dealer, though I wasn't friends with him.

My school brought in drug dogs once, and apparently several arrests were made because of drugs found in lockers.

It's really a severe problem here, and I'm just glad that none of my good friends contribute to it. It really frightens me and I don't like like it one bit.
