F.A for Illegal Immigrants.

Hi, im new here. Sorry if this was posted or is against the rules or something.
I been searching for information about f.a for illegal immigrants. I have read some articles that say some states grant illegals financial aid. I was wondering if any of you has had experience with this or knows something , i would appreciate if you would tell me. I need information related to the state of New York. Thanks in advance.

New York... I doubt New York would do that.

You would not be eligible for any federal or state based aid (pell, TAP, stafford loans) so you are in a bit of a quandry.

I sure hope no illegal imigrants get aid.

if you don't pay taxes and support the state, why should the state help?

The only help there is for illegal immigrants is that of helping them get back to their own country, also known as "deportation". You're out of luck if you're an illegal alien, sorry

Thanks i guess, even though i didnt ask if you support it or not. However, most
illegals i know here DO pay taxes, because of the PIN # you get when you do your taxes.

No SS card = paid under the table = no payment of taxes.

I'm sorry, but no.

And there is unlikely any aid available to illegal aliens.

Illegals do pay taxes

According to estimates, two-thirds of illegal immigrants have income tax withheld from their paychecks, and the Social Security Administration collects some $7 billion a year that goes unclaimed, most of it thought to come from unauthorized workers.

Not to mention sales taxes, property taxes (from their landlords), etc.

But unfortunently, there is probably no financial aid to illegal immigrants, and few for legal immigrants who pay taxes but do not have a green card yet.

nice website.. not biased at all

It fails to mention that any taxes paid yearly (average of $2400) when accounted for shows a net drain that costs over 10 billion annually.

undocumented workers = no W-2/W-4. If they don't fill those out, then income tax is NOT withheld.

property taxes? sure. Same with sales tax... however none of those require one to be a citizen.

In ammendum, If any taxes are filed, there's no way to verify the accuracy since they are undocumented.

it can be verified. My father owns a business and gets paid with checks. He does file his taxes with his real social. Since my dad only gets paid in checks it shows how much money hes making cause it gets saved in the bank account. However, i can see why it cant be verified on people who are not self employed, but as always there are exceptions. Also, you CAN have a real social and still be illegal. Back in 1995 and prior to that they were giving them out as long as you entered with a visa. Also, most illegals want to eventually apply for legal status, and one of the requirements is to pay your taxes. Not everything is black and white.

ANYWAY, I didnt post to have a discussion if Illegals should or shoudnt get the Aid. Just wanted some information about financial aid confirming that they indeed get or dont get.

In answer to your question, no.

Some states may provide state aid; many legislatures have considered it, I'm just not sure on the status of which states or schools actually do. See link below:

http://www.finaid.org/otheraid/undocumented.phtml

Per the finaid.org link I just posted, NY may provide aid if you attended hs in NY, maybe check with NY's dept of education or its equivalent?

if you have attended high school in NYS for at least 3 years you will be eligible for instate tuition at SUNY ( residient rate for CUNY if you have attended h.s. in NYC). that being said, we are back at square one where you will not be eligible for federal aid in the form of pell grants/ stafford loans. SInce the FAFSA prompt TAP (NYS Tuition Aid Application) you may not be eligible for TAP benefits either.

just made a followup call to one of my friends who works in CUNY admissions. You willbe eligible for admission, just not aid which means you will be a full freight payer.

the good thing is that if you live in NYC, CUNY is relatively affordable at ~ 2k per semester.

California and several other states offer in-state tuition rates to illegals living in that state, while US citizens from other states pay the higher out-of-state rates. So there's some financial aid, I guess.

Doesn't seem right to me.

There are a lot of things that undocumented aliens can get even though the regulations prohibit it; including loans.

Yeah, well it doesn't "seem right" that so many American corporations are profiting from the labor of illegal immigrants, and in that respect they are contributing to a state's economy. But let's leave all that to another thread.

:| Something tells me that the OP didn't post this seeking opinions on his/her immigration status.

How did you guess?
