I thought the FD Scholarship included on-campus interviews to finalists, now it appears it does not. Did I just dream I read that, or was that changed?

Also, has anyone heard anything on that topic? Any “finalists” or Semi-Finalists?

D got an email today saying that her application is being reviewed and if it matches the criteria they will schedule a phone interview in the next 14 days.

^Yeah, same here. Just one question about the “criteria,” though: is that just limited to SAT scores, GPA, and ECs, or do they mean your application?

If I read the information correctly, the Criteria are:
GPA/SAT Scores, etc.
Your Essay
Preference given to 1st generation college students
Preference given to local area students.
Must show a willingness and desire to help the worlds poorest people/nations.

Now, how they weigh all those is the question…
How important is any one thing? Well, I guess we will see in 13 days!

^Ah, I see. Thanks for the help.

@dadwonders: Where did you hear that local students would be given preference? On the web site, it says: “Preference will be given to first-generation students as well as those from diverse ethnic, cultural and socioeconomic backgrounds. Academically, the most competitive applicants should have a 3.8 GPA (unweighted) or 4.0 GPA (weighted) and a 1300 SAT or 29 ACT. They must also demonstrate a lifelong commitment to working for the advancement of under-resourced and underserved communities around the globe.”

@mia…

I SWEAR it said that at some point and has since changed. Or maybe I am confused.

I am a finalist and have interviewed. My GPA is 3.9 unweighted and 4.4 weighted, and my SATs are 2220, if that helps at all. :)

Larry called me today to inform me that I am officially a Frederick Douglass Scholar.

Congratulations!! Very best of luck to you!

Congratulations!
I’m a finalist for the scholarship. The person that interviewed me said notifications would come in about 2 weeks.
I’m really excited! :D

Blindmmon, Congratulations!!!

One of my son’s friends is a Douglas scholar–he is a very impressive (and fun, intelligent, articulate0 individual who is just thriving at AU.
